Clay is a medium of endless possibility, capable of embodying both malleability and permanence. Its versatility fascinates me, offering endless exploration of forms and surfaces.

I am working to finding a balanced hand-made form emulating the way a naturally formed object is nearly perfect but not quite. Walking in nature I observe forms such as goldenrod fly galls, milkweed seed pods, egg shells and rocks, with their bulbous undulations are so beautiful in their imperfection. In the way one can observe how an insect chewed a seed pod adding to its beauty, my work intentionally allows the maker’s hand to be visible. 

My clay fires to a warm brown hue, I often prefer to leave the majority of a form unglazed or treated with iron oxides to highlight its natural beauty. I continuously experiment with surface adding texture and burnishing to create surface that is both textured and smooth. These surfaces emulate tree bark or a stone that has been tossed about in the waves. They feel a bit worn and explore the ways pressure and time exert force and create beauty. The glazes that I work with are in a restrained palette of greys, blues and greens. My work is quiet and contemplative, inviting users to engage with the tactile pleasure of the everyday.
