Handmade One-Of-A-Kind Ceramics

Clay is a medium of enduring possibility, capable of embodying both malleability and permanence. I'm fascinated by its versatility, exploring multiple methods of making.

A goldenrod fly gall near a seed pod bursting with iridescent milkweed floss, or an egg shell, slightly wrinkled, becomes more beautiful in its imperfection. Undulating rims, bulbous forms and finger marks show the traces of making. Moments like these, found deep within the Wisconsin prairie near my home influence my forms.

I am drawn to ancient methods of making, and research both wheel and hand building techniques. My surfaces and textures are reminiscent of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman pottery.  My clay fires to a warm brown hue and I often prefer to leave the majority of a form unglazed to accentuate its natural beauty. The glazes that I choose are in a restrained palette of greys, blues and greens. My work embraces a quiet elegance, inviting users to engage with the tactile pleasure of the everyday.
